SSC-R SIGNS CONTRACTS WITH PAL AND NEGROS NAVIGATION
The College of International Hospitality Management gets three for the upswing as it enters alliance with two other prestigious companies after the contract-signing with the New Zealand School of Travel and Tourism last month.
Two notable companies in the travel industry made their services available to strengthen the academic capabilities of the college, thereby increasing the school’s competitive advantage. Philippine Airlines opens exclusively for SSC-R Manila its Customized Training on Airline Operations and Ticketing while Negros Navigation offers Cruise Ship Training OJT Program.
SSC-R is the only partner of PAL Learning Center in the NCR with regards to the said customized training program. Fourth year Tourism students can now have the advantage by undergoing the Hands-on Training on Airline Operations and Ticketing. Through the program, trained students get the employment priority due to the training advantage.
Meanwhile, Negros Navigation’s Cruise Ship Training OJT Program offers a one month training of the different Cruise Management areas such as Housekeeping, Front Office Services, Food and Beverages, Reservation and Ticketing, and Kitchen Handling. The program will benefit both HRM and Tourism students. Part of the agreement package is the facilitation by Negros Navigation of the SOLAS and Seaman’s Book.
Present during the contract signing (done last July 19) were Rev. Fr. Dionisio C. Cachero, OAR and Rev. Fr. Jorge D. Peligro, OAR., Dr. Cora Reyes, Miss Grace Ac-Ac, Miss Jovid Maricar David and Mr. Albert Danan.
PLASMA TV IS IN THE HOUSE!
Move away bulletin boards, electronic newsboarding is in the house!
SSC-R Manila signs up with Artistshop for the installation of plasma tv sets in strategic areas of the campus. Riding up with technology, this e-info thing sets the trend for campus information dissemination. SSC-R gets the first bite along with La Salle Taft.
Installed in areas of convergence such as the Recto Gate, High School Lobby, and College Lobby, the plasma technology will bring information fast and widely available. Aside from campus announcements on activities and other highlights, it will also bring non-campus information on products, services and other essential announcements.
Information feeding and monitoring are handled in coordination with the Public Relations Office. Messages, information, announcements (including greetings), and advertisements can be sent through albert_danan@yahoo.com. Call 7348931-39 loc. 216 or 0917-8876399 for details.
MASSCOM SETS UP A PHOTO EXHIBIT How Sebastinian Are You? Find out as Mass Communication 3rd Year students display their photo essays at the college lobby on Aug. 22-25, 2007.
As an output for their subject Feature Writing, students under the direction of Mr. Albert Danan were fielded in the different areas in Manila and took snap shots of various subjects as exhibit materials.
“This hands-on experience prepares our students to be responsible and critical mass communication professionals in the near future. Though taking a snap shot can be very scary for a first-timer, it is a valuable experience because it is my intention to allow them feel how challenging the work is and how important creativity is in composing a subject. This is my way of teaching them that there is always pressure in journalism and beating deadlines in the most creative, productive, resourceful and immediate way is an important lesson.”
But Mr. Danan provided the rescue and he explained properly that we are doing is only an academic requirement and we intend to create an article on the progress of Manila”, adds Carlo.
“Enjoy, kasi buong klase kami. Imagine, kung mag-jeep nga naman kami at lahat kami mahold-up, tiba-tiba nga naman ang mga loko kasi me digital cams na sila, me cellphones pa. Buti na lang, Sir Danan is very caring and responsible. He told us to ride a taxi in going and getting back to be safe. Kinuha pa niya yung plate number ng isang grupo when they departed from Baste, touched talaga me” adds Ilene.
Branded as “workers by heart” Mass Communication students have been constant movers in production projects in and out of campus. This has been a part of their academic training. Even simple presentations are planned, scripted, edited and documented as production proofs. This way students are equipped with skills in writing and researching, photography, camera handling, production assisting and managing, technical directing and editing, hosting and coordinating.
“Some of our graduates for the last ten years have been employed in the broadcast industry (particularly ABS-CBN, GMA 7, and ABC 5). And this should be taken as a challenge. We should not disappoint the media industry, particularly our successful graduates now working as newspaper editors/columnists, segment producers, executive producers, segment and assistant directors, production managers, talent handlers, copywriters, etc. Most of them would ask for referrals as they require additional staff to work with them. This you can expect because we were groomed to be communitarian, a trait that keeps us united as a big family. The concern for growth and development and even relationship grows beyond campus life. And this what makes SSC-R a truly unique school providing quality Catholic Christian education”
The exhibit will also invite selected fourth year high school students of different schools. “ I want to incorporate a sense of promotion in an exciting activity like this. Organizing a concept that creates an event could be an interesting venue to capture your target market. As a PR man, my role extends beyond classroom functions. This way, I can doubly help the school in promoting its courses. While Mass Communication stays as one of the popular courses as survey would reveal, we have to take advantage of the popularity by making noise. More importantly, event organizing is definitely a lot better than costly promotions and advertising’, ends Mr. Danan.
The best photos will be judged, recognized and awarded. Votes will be secured from the viewing public.
