MILO BEST in BASTE

By Roselyn Lacuesta

Former Stag player Francis Navarro trained MILO Best participants during the Basketball Training Program for kids held April 9-30 at the SSC-R Quadrangle.

This summer sports activity taught future cagers the basics and fundamentals of basketball. The training also gave emphasis to the right discipline and attitude the players must obtain in order to become successful in the said sports field.

The 8-session, 3 hours-a-day training program was also opened to outsiders. The same program will be offered this May to accommodate other enthusiasts while a regular Saturday schedule for the program will be implemented this coming school year 2007-2008.

Giving back what SSC-R had made of him as an accomplished athlete, Coach
Francis finds joy in training future superstars in their young yet very potential energy.

“I didn’t find hard time in teaching children how to play Basketball because they love what they are doing”, said Francis. He believes that more than a thing of enjoyment, basketball should be taken seriously as a field of expertise. With the right attitude and determination, it can provide anyone the career and profession that is very financially rewarding. “ And being a former player of Baste, it’s an opportunity and pleasure to give service by heart to my Alma Mater”, he gladly uttered.

San Sebastian takes a closer association with basketball being a prominent school producing popular players for PBA and other professional basketball leagues. Some of the star players who display superiority in the hardcourt are Bong Alvarez, Rommel Adducul, Rodney Santos, Mark Macapagal, Banjo Calpito, Topex Robinson, and Leo Najorda.

It’s 5-feat chamrpionship record in the NCAA Senior Basketball (1993-98) remains unmatched up to this time. The Junior Stags, on the other hand carries the basketball championship two years in a row (since 2005). Also for two years (since 2005), the Juniors have been NCAA Overall Champion.
