Defending champion San Sebastian relied on its defense when its offense and free-throw shooting turned sour as it edged upset-conscious Perpetual Help, 73-69, to seize the lead in Season 86 of the NCAA basketball tournament at The Arena in San Juan City.
With their guns firing blanks, the Stags toughened up on defense and held the Altas to just eight points in the final nine minutes and scoreless in the last two minutes to turn an eight-point fourth quarter deficit to their second straight triumph.

Isaac Pante delivered in the clutch while Gino Jumao-as came through with an all-around effort as San Sebastian turned back Letran, 89-83, yesterday to jumpstart its bid in the juniors division of the 86th NCAA basketball tournament at The Arena in San Juan City.
Pante shattered an 83-all deadlock by hitting a booming triple he capped with a pair of clutch free throws to seal the Staglets their first win and set in motion their campaign to regain the title they last won two years back.
The high-leaping Jumao-as, a native of Zamboanga who is playing his last season, for his part, got the rest of the job done with 27 points, eight assists, seven rebounds, two steals and two blocks to help in the cause.
