San Sebastian toughened up its defense in the stretch as it turned back Jose Rizal, 61-52, yesterday to arrange a title re-match with San Beda in the 86th NCAA basketball tournament at The Arena in San Juan City.

Skipper John Raymundo took up the cudgels in the 10 of his game-high 14 points in the last four minutes of the match to carry the Stags out of a three-point deficit and into the best-of-five title showdown with the Lions, who will enjoy a 1-0 advantage for coming up with a historic 16-game elimination round sweep.

(An article published in The Philippine Star on August 27, 2010)

Just when the country hits a major boulder – a hostage incident that’s failed to elicit much “wow” from our foreign friends, The San Sebastian College-Recoletos Manila comes up with a Travel Laboratory, an innovative venture between SSC-R’s College of Hospitality Management 9CIHM) and E & S Adventure Tours, aimed to expose its students to practices and trends in the industry.

Students in the travel lab undergo extensive training that includes actual handling of inquiries and basic travel booking, and alliances between tourism players and the academe in upgrading the quality of hospitality education by providing first-hand experience. Under the program, students are treated as tourism professionals to prepare them to be frontliners and stakeholders in the industry. Given the recent events that has rocked our shores, there are only two ways with which these hospitality specialists can go: you either fold, or embrace the sever challenge of impression management and damage control. Through the launch of this new enterprise, San Sebastian’s Travel Lab is pushing for the latter – talk about divine intervention.

MANILA, Philippines—Thai import Jeng Bualee came through with a virtuoso performance as San Sebastian-Excelroof forced a winner-take-all Game 3 for the Shakey’s V-League Season 7 Second Conference title by carving out a 24-26, 25-23, 25-22, 25-20 victory over Adamson before a huge Sunday crowd at the FilOil Flying V Arena in San Juan.

The 5-foot-10 Bualee, still in search of her first V-League title in her sixth conference with San Sebastian, finished with 27 points on top of 13 excellent digs as the Lady Stags destroyed the aura of invincibility that the Lady Falcons built against them in the tournament.
